- Students will use dichotomous keys to identify the creatures found in the estuary.
- Students will learn about non-point source pollution and how it affects sea grass production.
- Students will identify the plants and animals that live in an estuary and the adjoining mangrove forest and the importance of a clean estuary to our economy.
- Students will focus on the impact of human activities on water quality. They will learn about the sources and types of pollution and will use their skills to conduct water quality tests at a local site.
This water quality monitoring activity will use LaMotte Kits measuring temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity and salinity (optional nitrate & phosphate). With these activities, students will discover how humans interact and are dependent on the natural world.
