In this exploration, offered through the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program and presented by Around the Bend Tours, students will assess field conditions at three (3) sampling stations throughout the park. Soil moisture, temperature, light, wind, and evidence of plant and animal life will be recorded. By comparing different environments, students will begin to consider how non-living (abiotic) elements influence living conditions in an ecosystem. Teachers will keep the data sheet for further classroom study.
At each sample station, about 10 minutes will be spent making observations, and another 25 minutes will be available for an activity:
- Water Wonders water cycle activity
- Native Plant Nature Walk
- Osprey Game (or Scrub Jay Game at Oscar Scherer)
This exploration is available at Ken Thompson Park (City Island near Mote Marine), or Oscar Scherer State Park
