Once you arrive at the Florida House Institute, your class is energized for the day ahead with a series of surprising and spectacular science demonstrations. Students are then divided into groups before rotating between our interactive learning stations. Each station is a self-contained “micro” exploration led by a trained docent. Learning station activities include:
- Using a bicycle-mounted generator to demonstrate the transformation of energy
- Tunneling beneath the Florida House and using the scientific method to resolve a simulated emergency
- Creating working electrical circuits using conductive materials—including the human body
- And much more!
Students will record findings at each learning station in a scientific logbook. Healthy snacks and beverages are provided, and your class is welcome to take their lunch in our spacious event room. Before they depart, students will receive a take-home activity booklet that reinforces key learning objectives from the day’s exploration.
Home on Earth provides tailored lesson plans through SRQ Blackboard Learn to supplement and enhance your visit. Teachers who complete our pre/post-visit assessment will be entered into a drawing to receive gift cards, classroom STEM materials, or other great prizes!
