Embracing Our Differences uses the power of art and education to expand consciousness and open the heart to celebrate the diversity of the human family. It accomplishes this through an annual, large-scale outdoor juried art exhibition and a comprehensive series of educational initiatives, programs and resources designed for teachers and students.
Our education initiative represents the most important aspect of our efforts – reaching and impacting the lives of our children. Since 2004, more than 279,000 students have participated including 42,537 students in 2017 alone.
In addition to free field trips, a variety of resources are provided which include workshops presented by nationally recognized educators and professionally developed lesson plans relating to art appreciation, character building and diversity education. All lesson plans are created under the supervision of Sarasota County School District’s Curriculum and Instruction Department. As a result of these efforts, students not only have a great field trip, but also a well-planned curriculum to accompany the experience.
Teachers who participate in our education programs overwhelmingly rate them as meaningful and relevant educational experiences for their students. Specifically, of 270 teachers surveyed in 2017, 96% felt the experience was either “outstanding” or “very good.”
