Suncoast Science Center’s Mission:

To provide people of all ages the opportunity to actively engage in the world of science, technology, engineering and math, and to encourage life-long learning in a fun, educational, and hands-on environment.

About Us:

Suncoast Science Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization committed to providing hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering and math to people of all ages.

Suncoast Science Center facilitates the Science Lending Library, which provides free science equipment on loan to teachers and schools in Sarasota and Manatee counties, as well as serving as a home for the Faulhaber Fab Lab.

In response to the growing need for hands-on experiences in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math in Sarasota and Manatee counties, Suncoast Center also offers educational outreach programming and experiences for area schools.


2017 Summer Science Camps at Suncoast Science / Faulhaber FAB LAB

Join us for some summer science fun!  Weekly themes are available June 12th, 2017 –  August 14 for students entering grades 4th – 8th for the 2017-2018 school year.

Previous Summer Science Camp themes:

Robotics Lab (4th – 5th & 6th – 8th

Program LEGO NXT robots to complete challenges ranging from dancing robots to running obstacle courses!  This fun-filled camp is great for beginners to robotics.

 Awesome Arduino (6th – 8th grade) 

Explore the world of electronics and programming with Arduino.  Learn how to program and use sensors to create instruments you can play with the wave of your hand, secret-code door locks, and lights that respond to your touch or mood. This camp is great for beginners to Arduino.

Fab Creations (4th – 5th & 6th – 8th

Use cutting edge technology, fab machines, and your imagination to create your own custom sunglasses, laser-cut key chains, and even a mini paper airplane launcher!  Participants will receive instruction in 2D software design, basic circuitry and soldering, and usage of our 2D machines for camp projects.  

Electrifying Electronics  (4th – 5th & 6th – 8th)

Curious about electronics? Explore the basics of electronics and circuitry, “fry” an LED, and build functional electronics projects.  Learn how to identify and use basic components such as resistors, capacitors, transistors, and integrated circuits to create your own LED light box that responds to music!

3D Designs (4th – 5th & 6th – 8th)

Embark on a 3-Dimensional design adventure.  Learn the basics of 2D & 3D design and use your new skills to create trinkets, toys, games, and even customized molds that can be used for creating custom chocolates or ice cubes!  Participants will receive instruction in 2D & 3D software design and use various tools to create 3D designs including the 3-D printer, CNC foam cutter and vacuum former.

 Design Squad (6th – 8th grade) – GIRLS ONLY!!!

Calling all girls who want to explore the FAB-ulous machines in the lab.  It’s your chance to imagine, design, and make your ideas come to life!  Participants will have the opportunity to learn and use various machines in the lab to create custom items from cookie stamps to laser-cut fashion accessories, and even LED necklaces you create and program! And remember…No Boys Allowed!!!
