Students will explore the local Sarasota Bay estuary by wading into the grass flats at low tide. They will discover that this estuary, where freshwater mixes with saltwater, receives all of its freshwater from the watershed.’a0They will also learn what a watershed is and how the two are connected.
Students will identify and classify the animals that live in the estuary using a simple dichotomous key. The adjoining mangrove forest will be investigated to identify native plants and animals there. With these activities, students will discover how humans interact and are dependent on the natural world.
These standards-based activities will give students more experiences to write about and improve cognition by using different brain pathways by being outdoors. Field experiences enhance classroom learning. Contact us about grant funding.
