Although we are not able to invite students to the arena (at this time) to experience Science through the eyes of the circus (with Circus Arts Conservatory), we can give them a thrilling example of what it would feel like!

Students will virtually experience what it is like to fly on a trapeze, walk the high wire, and spin on a lyra (aerial hoop).Three basic kinds of circus acts that will be investigated: balancing, hanging and manipulation. 

This virtual field trip combines lecture and demonstration with engaging activities, allowing each student to understand the science concepts through first person video interactions. Students will be afforded the opportunity to learn through different types of learning styles.

Concepts to be covered are Gravity, Force, Friction, Mass, Acceleration and Kinetic and Potential Energy and the necessary concepts to understand them. 

  • Students will find a new appreciation for science through this unique experience.
  • Students will see science through real life applications.
  • Students will experience mental and physical challenges. 

*EXTENSION: Lorenzo on the Teeterboard (Click here to go to this Exploration!) In this STEAM activity students create a teeterboard (a piece of circus equipment) out of provided everyday items with a goal of launching their “person” into/onto their “mat”.
