Historic Spanish Point has provided our Docent-Led School Tours to over 90,000 school children over the past 30 years. Tours are given to public schools, private schools, and home school groups in Southwest Florida. The Pioneer Life program is designed for fourth grade students and features a curriculum booklet for each student for interdisciplinary classroom preparation prior to an experienced-filled field trip to our 30-acre outdoor museum. The 2.5 hour tour follows the story of the Webb family, who built their homestead at Historic Spanish Point in 1867. The Webb family was the second American family in the Sarasota County area and lived here until 1910. With our docents, students will tour the historic homes of this family and the reconstructed packinghouse and reconstructed chapel. They will learn how this pioneer family survived the Floridian frontier. The tour will also include a hand-on activity in which students will learn the skill of weaving.
Our tours are available Tuesday-Friday from October-May. Tours will typically run from 10:00 a.m to 12:30 p.m. and participants are invited to bring lunches with them to enjoy at our Magnolia Lawn picnic area after their tour.
