Come witness Rodgers and Hammerstein’s empowering twist on the fairytale that offers a valuable lesson for children and adults alike: it’s not magic, but persistence and merit, that can change a person’s destiny. This version of the classic story of Cinderella, living in servitude to a cruel stepmother and stepsisters, emphasizes that her path to royalty is strengthened by her kindness and empathy, and that once she becomes a princess, she bears responsibility to all the people—from servants to royals—of the kingdom.

Teachers can use this version of the story to discuss with their students the concepts of democracy, good citizenry, and justice, as young students’ familiarity with the tale will serve as an access point for understanding these big and important ideas.

The uplifting story is buoyed by energetic music and dance numbers, as always, expertly performed by the talented acting students of Booker High School. Students and teachers alike will leave the theatre knowing that nothing’s impossible, and the lessons of persistence, fairness, and kindness will linger long after the curtain falls.

The exploration is enhanced by a study guide that teachers can use to prepare for the musical and as a follow-up to the visit to Booker High School. The guide is created by teachers for teachers, addressing Florida Standards in ELA and Social Studies (civics) for grades 3-5.
