A professional naturalist from Around the Bend Nature Tours will assist teachers with the implementation of the Scrub Tech Kit. Naturalist will come to school to train teachers on the activities in the kit. As an option, the naturalist can come into the classroom and lead the students in the activities found within the kit.

This Tech Kit developed by Around the Bend Nature Tours is available on loan from the Sarasota Bay Estuary P.I.E.R. Program for a period of up to 2 weeks. Students will discover how the Florida scrub habitat is significant to aquifer recharge, local ecology and why habitat restoration including prescribed fire, is critical to the survival of the endemic scrub jay species and the keystone species gopher tortoise.

Included in the Scrub Diversity Tech Kit:

  • Teacher notebook with lesson plans, worksheet masters and instructions
  • Jump drive with videos, lesson plans, masters
  • All materials needed for the following activities
    • Scrub Diversity Activity – using virtual vegetation transects
    • Florida Scrub Jay Game
    • Living with Fire – web-based game

NOTE: You can reserve the Tech Kit for FREE directly from the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program. Contact
