We Ran Away with the Circus! incorporates both an onsite circus performance and a museum visit into a dynamic and engaging program for 2nd grade classes. The following guide will lay out the logistics of the program, introduce you to some of the concepts covered in it, and provide suggested pre- and post-visit activities to extend and strengthen student learning.

The goals of the We Ran Away with the Circus! program are:

  • To teach 2nd grade students about the American circus – its history, characters, and unique operation.
  • To help students feel connected to local institutions, including the Circus Arts Conservatory (and Sarasota’s circus heritage more broadly) and The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art.
  • To challenge students to apply classroom skills to the real-world setting of working for or patronizing the circus.
