Take the “A” Train with Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe
Performers from Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe were on hand at Sarasota County Schools’ Booker Middle School last week for an Ed Explore SRQ JazzLinks Exploration on the Harlem Renaissance, funded by Jazz Club of Sarasota. Through the words, songs and performances of actors portraying Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, Josephine Baker and Harold Nicholas, students learned about the cultural, social and artistic contributions of Black Americans during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s.
